Guangzhou’s transport keeps growing fast – Years’ fast growth of Guangzhou’s transport has laid a solid foundation for its further sustainable and quick development. In 2003, the gross handled passenger volume was 298 million person times, a growth of 1.5% over the previous year; the gross handled freight volume was 293 million tons, a growth of 2.9% over the previous year. Total handling capacity of the ports was 192 million tons, a growth of 14.5% over the previous year, among which that of Port Guangzhou was 172 million tons, with a growth of 12.2%. The TEU was 2.504 million, with a growth of 26.3%. The passenger transport volume of the urban buses and trolleybuses was 1.907 billion person times. The average daily transport volume was 5.4 million person times. The volume of pipe-transported freight was about 3.874 million tons, with a growth of 0.8%. The passenger transport volume of the metro lines was 116 million person times. During the holiday period of the National Day, the daily passenger transport volume hit a new historic height of 770,000 person times.
