Guangzhou’s transport infrastructure and services become more complete and perfect – Guangzhou is a junction of Jing-Guang Railway, Guang-Mao Railway, Guang-Mei-Shan Railway and South China’s regional railways. Composed of Guangzhou Railway Station, Guangzhou East Railway Station, Guangzhou North Railway Station and various freight terminals, the railway system with complete functions has been rationally laid-out. Construction of Guangzhou’s new passenger railway station, Wu-Guang special passenger railway line and Guang-Shen High-speed railway is being quickened. Guangzhou has a quite accessible highway network consisting of urban ring expressways, 6 highways and 5 trunk highways, thus connecting the city with the Pearl River Delta and other parts of the whole province. As the largest trade port in South China, Port Guangzhou has shipping lines with more than 300 harbors in more than 80 countries and regions worldwide, and with more than 100 domestic ports. Now there are 477 berths for crude oil, coal, finished oil, ores, building materials, cereals, containers and bulk cargo, out of which there are 32 10,000T berths. In 1999, Port Guangzhou became the second 100 million-ton port in China’s mainland. In 2001, its handling capacity ranked among world top ten ports. With the construction of Nansha harbor area and the second-phase channel-dredging project of Port Guangzhou, the position of Port Guangzhou as a hub port in South China would be further consolidated and promoted, and it will stride towards the rank of the world top ports. Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport is the first one to be designed, constructed and operated according to “Hub Idea” and the largest, most functionally advanced and modern one in China. Operation of new Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport would greatly upgrade Guangzhou’s air services. Urban public transport facilities keep improving. The construction of “Double Quick” transport system mainly composed of urban expressways and rail transport is actively pushing forward. Now a network road system consisting of two completed ring roads, 4 link lines and 12 longitudinal and lateral road lines has been completed. The construction of a batch of expressways is being quickened. Guangzhou’s rail transport construction has been undergoing great development with each passing day. No.1 and No.2 metro lines have been put into operation, symbolizing that Guangzhou’s rail transport approaches the network. It is estimated that the construction of an urban rail transport network, consisting of 4 ring lines, 15 radial lines and 8 link lines and totaling 200km long, will be completed in 2010. The pace to upgrade transport services is being quickened. Traditional cargo transport is gradually changing to modern logistic service. On the basis of the new Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport, Guangzhou Nansha New Harbor, Guangzhou railway freight terminal and highways, it is planned to build 3 international hub logistics parks - Huangpu, Guangzhou airport and Nansha, and 5 comprehensive regional logistics parks – Fangcun, Baiyun, Zengcheng, Panyu and Huadou. Furthermore, as a development strategy of Guangzhou’s urban public transport, construction of a “Green Public Transport” is speeding up.
